Through more than 30 years of continuous healthcare industry participation, Mr. Osberg has increasingly focused on growing and re-engineering companies in the healthcare information technology (HIT) industry via integrating new and innovative technology, expanding Internet presence as appropriate, establishing partnerships and alliances, performing research, participating in mergers & acquisitions, and assisting with funding as needed.

 

Professional Experience

Consultant, Speaker, Publisher

Founded, Informed Partners, L.L.C. in 1997: A healthcare consulting firm focused on offering business development services, industry intelligence and litigation Support. Assists healthcare companies develop Internet, financial, clinical, patient education and other HIT products and services.  Founded John C. Osberg & Associates in 1989. In 1993, merged with Perot Systems/Benton International--the banking/healthcare consulting firm that was the implementation arm of the Hartford Foundation’s CHMIS program seeding regional health networks around the USA. Assisted corporations, banks, providers, and payers with strategic business development--primarily in the electronic data interchange (EDI), and transaction processing segments of healthcare. In 1990 published the first comprehensive "Directory of Healthcare EDI Companies" and published a profitable quarterly newsletter: "EDI News." Mr. Osberg is often engaged as a public speaker on healthcare I.T. and Medical Banking topics, in addition to frequently being quoted in industry publications.

Corporate Executive

Served as Senior Vice President and Corporate Officer, Transaction Services Division, of the NASDAQ traded, then $500 million/year, medical billing services company Medaphis Corporation for the 3-year period ending 1997. Had management responsibility for electronic claims/transaction processing companies and payor relationships. Participated in a number of mergers & acquisitions, focused on strategic initiatives in the electronic data interchange (EDI) and network services areas and negotiated several profitable contracts for Medaphis.  In the mid-1980s, served as Western Regional Director for healthcare practice management systems at Harris/Lanier. During the 1970s, served as a senior executive in two California hospitals.

Entrepreneur, Investor

Started a first generation managed-care information company called IPA Information Systems, Inc. in 1978.  Served as Vice President of Sales/Marketing.  In 1981 formed a multi-state physician office practice management system company serving physicians and dentists and became IBM’s first VAR in that industry segment.  Participated in a nationwide physician practice management systems company "roll-up" that lead to a initial public offering in 1999.

Education

Graduated from The George Washington University, Washington, D. C. with a Masters Degree in Health Care Administration and Humboldt State University with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.
